Hi there I want to know if anyone would considered Charmed Science Fiction. There are things do on the show they have like doing magic, casting spells, and they have demons. Also I wouldnt think that Buffy would be considered science fiction, when it was aired on the Canadian sci fi channel SPACE. So let me know if you think that about Charmed.

Re: Charmed Considered Sci Fi
Fri, September 1, 2006 - 7:37 AMIt all depends on how you define science fiction. Some folks use the narrow definition of SF: That it must always deal with science in a fictional setting. While other folks use the broad defintion:That it deals with science in a fictional setting as well as other "highly imaginative" concepts like horror, fantasy and comics. So when using the narrow defintion, Charmed is not SF. But when using the broad definition, Charmed is SF (but just barely). -

Re: Charmed Considered Sci Fi
Fri, September 1, 2006 - 8:54 AMSciFi Channel is known for more than just science fiction. It has had many purely fantasy (and horror) movies.
Is Charmed scifi? I'd say no.
Does it belong on SciFi channel? Well, in comparison to wrestling....

Re: Charmed Considered Sci Fi
Fri, September 1, 2006 - 6:14 PMI think it best for a genre like sc-fi for it to have as wide a range of aspects as possible, no ...
But wrestling really IS stretching it a bit, i think.... I mean i get the whole 'grab the 14-25 demographic' of putting wrestling on Sci-Fi, but that seems to be the only connection between the two for me...
'Charmed' easily comes under the wide umbrella of 'speculative' fiction that INCLUDES sci-fi AND fantasy...
Really the two are so closely related as to be interchangable, as far as questions of 'belonging'.......

Re: Charmed Considered Sci Fi
Fri, September 1, 2006 - 7:53 PMHow strictly are we speaking? It is not Science Fiction (SciFi) by any stretch of the imagination. However, "SF" has also been used for "Speculative Fiction." Angel, Buffy, Charmed, Smallville, etc... all count under that designation. They are also in that close relation: Fantasy.
It may not be SciFi...but certainly better fits than much of the carp on the channel.

Re: Charmed Considered Sci Fi
Fri, September 15, 2006 - 1:32 PMCharmed is definately NOT Science Fiction, however, the Sci-Fi channel since the begining has included horror and fantasy in it's line up, so I'm not surprised to see it there. Although Buffy is primarily Horror/Fantasy, it does occasionally have sci-fi elements like robots and aliens. (I don't watch Charmed, but I wouldn't be surprised if a robot had turned up there at some point.)
Although I'd prefer it if there were more Sci on Sci-Fi, I'm not sure there actually is enough available to fill the entire schedule. -

Re: Charmed Considered Sci Fi
Fri, September 15, 2006 - 3:21 PMThe only thing that's sci-fi-like about Charmed is the actor Julian McMahon, who is clearly so beautiful that he had to be genetically engineered, years ahead of his time. -

Unsu...
Re: Charmed Considered Sci Fi
Sun, November 26, 2006 - 3:06 AMditto on Julian McMahon...
that man is beyond hot
i mean beyond beautiful....
however, i would say Charmed is more scifi than WRESTLING...i mean there is nothing scifi about
wrestling... i mean, thats friggin ridiculous.
now, Julian... beyond words... -

Re: Charmed Considered Sci Fi
Thu, January 4, 2007 - 6:39 PMI agree Julian McMahon is a hottie, but wrestling being shown on the Sci-fi Channel is bloody insane. Here is Canada we have a channel called Space, similar to the Sci-Fi Channel, but they showed Buffy and Angel and I dont think that they would be considered science fiction. More like fantasy, too bad there isnt a fantasy channel that should show Charmed, Buffy, Angel, and Alias. Thats another show that Space is showing that isnt science fiction.

Re: Charmed Considered Sci Fi
Mon, January 8, 2007 - 1:17 PMCharmed is low-grade fantasy. If there was a "Schlock Channel", that's where it should go.
